Modern Dance
Modern is a combination of two styles, Jazz and Contemporary. The SABOD (South African Body of Dance) syllabus gives the dancer an excellent background to both styles whilst also equipping them with the basic technique of dance. Jazz is normally to fast music and has many accents, isolations and dynamics. There is a certain attitude needed for jazz. Contemporary is normally to slower music and has a more expressive style with softer movements, contractions and beautiful lines. In the exams the dancers are also taught various Modern theatre styles such as: Bollywood, Grease, Footloose, Hairspray, Latino and African, to name a few.
Exams have various exercises at the barre, floor and centre and different combinations. Once a dancer has passed an exam, they are able to go up to the next level.
With the exam classes dancers can one day obtain their Modern Dance Teacher’s Certificate.
Modern dance fee structure
Studio registration fee: | R300/annum |
1 x 30 min class per week | R350 per month |
1 x 45 min class per week | R400 per month |
1 x 1 hour class per week | R450 per month |
Advanced Students (Grade 12 – Associate, age 16 and up) 1 x 1 hour practical 1 x 30 min theory |
R700 per month |
